First, we need to think, that ‘Why and how do we think?

Do you agree with me that whenever we are thinking, we are always thinking about what we like /want to achieve or solve something, to do something that is desired?

Design Thinking is an approach and effective tool which makes us aware of how we are thinking about the things, or that particular subject which we wish to achieve, which we are trying to plan, which we are trying to solve, we wish to solve.

I was also curious to understand where the term ‘Design Thinking’ came from.

Actually, the process of Design Thinking helps us to think the way we should think. You become the onlooker by following that process, a spectator. As a Design Thinker.

My realization:

As a human, we feel first, and then we think. That is what has been stated by neuro-psychoanalyst Dr. Mark Sloms, from Cape Town University. So here, in this context, ‘design’ is all about to feel first, to sense first.

  1. As a design thinking practitioner, to sense and feel first is all about understanding what the thinker is feeling, for whom and why? Practically it’s a process of empathizing with the subject. Here, Design thinkers are open to receive.
  2. In its simplest terms, the word ‘thinking’ or ‘to think’ means to reason something. So scientifically, here, Design thinkers are using the intellect for the same. And How to derive the best strategy to achieve the desired results.
  3. When we club these two words together, Design (feeling) and Thinking ( reasoning) they actually complement each other and work together in a pattern of Feeling and Thinking and vice versa. Which is actually greatly helpful in knowing the unknown/intangible of what, why, and how? Feeling and thinking needs to play an appropriate role while performing if anyone is getting biased the outcome may vary in that accordance.

I believe that the very purpose of ‘Design Thinking’ is to maximize the user’s favorable experience by empathizing with the subject with the most relevant and contextual reason. Once the context is identified the later process becomes more clear and justified to move ahead.

Design thinking in everyday business:

So when we adopt, use and practice Design Thinking in everyday business, it can maximize the favorable experiences for all by solving ill-defined business problems.

By practicing Design Thinking in everyday business, which actually makes you aware of what you are doing, for whom you are doing, why you are doing, what you are expecting, and importantly, what kind of experiences we are trying to create for you all.

And in turn, it is the scale-up of the bottom line.

Yet, design is not only about numbers, statistics, market share, or profits. In fact, design can create a unique value for the entire value chain. To adapt Design Thinking in everyday business, I would like to suggest, be open. Show, A) readiness to listen, try to be unbiased. Do a lot of brainstorming, Sense it. Feel it. Identify the context of the subject. Diverge. Explore the possibilities.

Choose the best option to converge, then define, and decide the way ahead.

Do a pilot run of what you have decided. Take feedback. Reiterate to achieve the desired solution which is maximizing the experience for all the stakeholders.

I strongly believe that in the end, we are human beings, driven by our emotions.

And the favorable experiences create favorable emotions to stay longer with the same.
